Our Engagement

Well there is no romantic story here....

We were both content with life and our achievements to date. We had been living together for 2 years enjoyed our animals, holidays and the new business was also going well for Steve. I had a good job too and everything was going well. We had been trying to have a family and had a few problems along the way including a misscarriage in Sept. 04. That was quite upsetting for both of us however just 2 mths later we found out we were pregnant again and this time I was sure it was for keeps. Steve and I had discsussed on numerous occassions getting married but nothing happened. Steve also knew it was important to me to be married before our child arrived so when I was 9 weeks pregnant and still no word from Steve. I thought about how to do something. It was 30 December 2004 and I was out picking up our new outdoor chairs. They were suppose to be ready for me to collect but they had not arrived from the off site location so I was less than happy with the gorl and told her I was going to do some shopping and she should ring me to let me know what they were going to do as I needed the chairs today. We were planning a New Years Eve BBQ at our place and thought it nice to have the new setting ready. Anyway I went off to the shops and all the sales were on. First i got my nails done as again i hoped perhaps Steve was planning a New Years Eve surprise. Then I looked around the shops. I had been eyeing off rings for months in hope Steve would ask me and already knew what kind of wedding I would have etc. I tried on a few rings that looked lovely and 30% - 50% well what a bargain..... Steve phoned me just as I was collecting the chairs to see how I went. I asked him had he done anything about an engagement ring and he said no. I said I had passed my time during the morning trying on a few rings and as the sales were on we could get a great price. I asked if he would come to have a look with me. He simply said if I saw something I liked to buy it. Well that would be a dangerous suggestion a guy could make to most girls especially when I had the joint visa card. We had talked about rings previously and Steve knew I was not after anything extravagant just something simle and elegant which is exactly what I selected.

I arrived home and had put the ring on in the car to drive home. As I got out of the car Steve asked to look at the ring and smiled commenting it was nice. He then said I should not be wearing it yet ! So I mentioned that if i gave it to him in the box thats where it would stay for another 12 mths or so and the baby was on the way. I then sugested that as his parents were coming for New years Eve we could announce it then and he agreed. Actually more relived is probably the word.

My parents were away on holidays so i phoned then in the morning of 31 Dec to tell them. They were in Broken Hill at the time. They were both happy for us and passed on congratlutations. Steves parents also took the news well and everyone enjoyed the night. Wedding talk soon started and originally i suggested an Easter wedding however we decided on 2 April 2005.
